An Introduction to the Culture of the Canary Islands: Quick Facts to know
The Canary Islands are obviously influenced by Spanish customs but there is much that is unique to The Islands that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.
People from the Canary Islands are called Canarios and they call Spanish mainlanders Peninsulares.
The language is Spanish but Canarios use a different vocabulary and there are many additional words you will find in use.
Canarios are generally very relaxed, the food is tropical – some of our favourite dishes are papas arrugadas & gofio canario.
They are happy, zen people, interested in nature and very proud of their beautiful landscape. The year-round sunshine helps!
They are very appreciative of the tourists coming to see the trails and the spectacular landscapes and some of the flora and the fauna is unique to the Islands
The government have invested heavily in the roads on the main islands so driving and getting around is very easy.
